Setting up your first language

Overview

Setup happens once, the first time you open the app. It sets up a workspace: a language, a starting level, and a few preferences. You can change almost all of it later, and add more languages afterward.

Step by step

1. Pick a language. Lexxio shows every language it currently supports. Pick the one you're learning, not the one you already speak.
2. Pick a style, if there is one. Some languages have more than one regional style, for example European versus Latin American Spanish. If the language you picked has options, you'll see them here. If it doesn't, this step is skipped.
3. Set your starting level. Choose a level yourself, or tap "Find my level" for a short quiz. See Finding your starting level for how the quiz works.
4. Make it yours. Pick a highlight color and a read-aloud voice. Lexxio recommends a voice for your language automatically; you can change it later in Settings.
5. Meet Coach. A short screen introduces Coach, the reading companion that can nudge you with tips as you read. You can turn it on or off here, and again later in Settings.
6. Start reading. On desktop, you land straight in the app. On mobile, a short set of screens points out where your library lives and how word lookup works, since there's no desktop toolbar to point at.

Tips

• Setup asks for your target language up front, but not your native language yet. Lexxio currently assumes English; support for other native languages is coming.
• If you're not sure what level to pick, take the quiz. It's short, works offline, and you can always change your level later, book by book. See Choosing a reading level for one book.
• On mobile, you'll need to sign in to finish setup. On desktop, an account isn't required to get started.
