Understanding a translation
Once you have a translation, "Show breakdown" and "Explain grammar" show how it was built, piece by piece.
Overview
Once you've translated something on the Translate screen, two tools let you see how the translation was actually built: "Show breakdown" and "Explain grammar."
Show breakdown
Click "Show breakdown" and Lexxio breaks the translation down by unit, with grammar tags attached to each piece. If part of the text is an idiom, the breakdown shows the literal meaning, the actual meaning, and a short explanation of why it doesn't translate word for word.
The breakdown also includes a confidence rating: High, Medium, or Low. This is a plain read on how sure the translation is, useful when a phrase is ambiguous or the source text is unusual.
Explain grammar
Click a sentence and "Explain grammar" opens a walkthrough of how the original and translated sentences line up, piece by piece. It's built for cases where word order or grammar shifts between the two languages, so you can see which part of the translation corresponds to which part of the original.
Where this works
Both tools live on the Translate screen only. This kind of detailed, piece-by-piece interaction isn't available in the reader when you're reading a book, the reader's translation view doesn't have a breakdown or grammar walkthrough. If you want this level of detail on a specific sentence from a book, paste it into Translate.
